COLCHESTER United interim head coach Wayne Brown is hoping Corie Andrews has received a confidence boost after bagging his first-ever Football League goal.

Andrews came off the bench to score the U's third goal in their 3-0 triumph at Salford City, last weekend.

It was Andrews' third appearance for Colchester since he joined them on loan from League One side AFC Wimbledon until the end of the season, earlier this month.

The 24-year-old finished smartly to score his first goal for the U's - and boss Brown is hoping that it will be the first of many.

Brown said: “Corie came on and got his goal and hopefully, that gives him a bit of confidence and belief going into the next few games coming up."

Andrews had to replaced soon after scoring at Salford after suffering a blow to his back.

The former Aldershot Town loanee was substituted for Frank Nouble, in the closing stages of the game at Moor Lane.

Brown said: “He got a smash in the back which is a bit of a sore one for him.

“We just felt that we had to make that change and get somebody up there that can try and hold the ball up and be a little bit more of a presence than he could, because of his back issue.

“Frank did a great job for us when he came on, holding the ball up and managing the game, which was fantastic."

Brown was also pleased with the performance of another of Colchester's loanees against Salford.

Myles Kenlock shone on his U's debut against the Ammies, having only signed for the club on loan from Ipswich Town, some 48 hours earlier.

It was Kenlock's first competitive game since he featured for Town against the U's in their Papa John's Trophy clash last November - and the 25-year-old left-back marked it was a goal and a solid display.

Brown added: “We’re really happy with Kenny.

“He’s not played a lot of football of late and it was one of those going into the game where ‘how long is he going to last?’

“He’s an experienced boy for his age and he’s played a lot of football.

“I thought he managed himself well at times, getting the 90 minutes out of him and the goal was a bit of a bonus for him."
