We’ve all heard the stories of local crimes, some of you may have even experienced or seen an incident. This is something that most of us either feel will never happen to us or we have a deep rooted fear over it. But no matter what you think, this is an issue we must all pay attention to and take seriously, which is why last weekend I took part in a self defence course with SDF Essex Self Defence. Although this course is for anyone over the age of 10, I felt it especially important for me as a young woman to feel safer.

In the beginner’s course I learnt multiple tips and tricks to keep myself safe and protect myself should the worst ever occur. Even if, hopefully, I never have to put this knowledge into practice I am grateful and feel reassured with my new information. Not only this but Richard, who runs SDF Essex Self Defence, is super kind, approachable and genuine which allows the session to be fun, yet serious when it needs to be creating a balance that puts you at ease even as you approach difficult subjects.

As Richard, the owner of SDF Essex Self defence, states on the SDF website, “ I don’t teach students to fight, I teach the ability to avoid getting hurt.” He also explains that the aim of these courses is to, “learn how to avoid FREEZING in an attack situation, to help with fitness, building confidence and self esteem.”

Also this physical activity that doubles as a life skill can be used toward Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

I encourage you to find out more either on the SDF website https://www.selfdefenceandfitness.com/ or by contacting directly (email: info@selfdefenceandfitness.com or phone: 07798 628207 )

This is a great opportunity to: learn a new skill; improve your knowledge; increase fitness and  increase self esteem.
