JUNIOR Tchamadeu admits Colchester United need results fast if they are to move away from the League Two danger.

The U’s head to high-flying Sutton United tonight looking for a vital win to boost their survival hopes, after a run of four straight league defeats.

Colchester lie three points above the drop zone and teenage left-back Tchamadeu knows they have to start winning.

Tchamadeu said: “We won’t give up – there’s still more games to go but we do need results right now.

“We understand why the fans are frustrated and they’ve got a right to be frustrated but the XI that step up on that pitch will give it their all in every game.

“In every game and in training, we work hard so hopefully in due time, the results will come.

“Sutton is another tough game coming so soon but there’s no time to dwell on the Barrow game.

“We have got to prepare, recover and go again.

“It’s a big few weeks coming up for us and a lot of games and rearrangements – those are the games we need to make count.”

Gazette:

Colchester need to quickly lift themselves tonight, following their disappointing 2-0 home defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Barrow.

Tom Dallison’s own goal and substitute Josh Kay sealed the visitors’ win, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

“Barrow are in a similar position to us in the table and there’s no denying that it was an important game for us to win,” said Tchamadeu.

“I don’t think the result was fair on us in the sense that we created chances.

“It’s kind of been the story of our season so far.

“We create so many chances and so many opportunities to score but we just don’t take them and then we let teams get back in the game.

“That’s obviously an area we need to work on right now, because there’s no denying that we’re in a sticky position and we need to get out of it as soon as possible.

“The start of the second half wasn’t good enough from us.

“We started slowly and allowed them to get on the ball in areas with a lot of space.

“That obviously affected us and their first goal was a hard one to concede.

“It’s the finer details and them scoring makes it harder for us to get back into the game.

“It’s always difficult when you’re chasing the game and committing bodies forward, to try and get an equaliser because it can always go wrong which it did when we conceded again.”

Gazette:

Tchamadeu has started Colchester’s last seven games, in all competitions.

It is the 18-year-old’s longest run in the U’s starting line-up since he made his professional debut for them in December, 2020.

“I definitely enjoying playing in the team,” added Tchamadeu, who has made 17 appearances for Colchester so far, this season.

“The gaffer has given me this opportunity to cement my place, which I’m trying to do every day in training and in every game I play.

“It’s a matter of keep performing every week in front of the fans and whoever is watching.

“I enjoy playing wing-back a lot – I feel like I can get in higher positions and that’s where I can affect the game, one v one and crossing a ball.

“I think getting forward and trying to provide for people is one of the strong parts of my game – that’s what I base my game on.”
