Colchester Council considers hundreds of planning applications every year.
They range from chopping down trees to building extensions, new houses and changes to shops and businesses.
Here, we look at projects recently submitted to the council this week.
Colchester Arts Centre, Church Street, Colchester
The popular venue has applied to install support for its loudspeakers and sound system.
If approved, the submitted plans will see a wide range of improvement works undertaken.
Bosses at the centre also seek to demolish the existing entrance portal in the tower base and install a new entrance.
The proposal also applied for installation of solar panels at the site as well as alterations to its existing sound system.
The Royal Bank of Scotland, Head Street, Colchester
A bank which temporarily closed is set to shut its doors for good.
The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced it is closing its branch in Head Street, Colchester.
It has now applied for planning permission to remove all marketing from the front of the store and make good it match the other nearby buildings.
Bank bosses also seek to remove the cash machine and seal the letterbox and night safe before moving out of the branch.
Colchester Council has approved the proposal.
Land adjacent to Dabchicks Sailing Club, Coast Road, West Mersea
Plans have been submitted for the temporary installation of a safety fence and gating system in West Mersea.
It is hoped the measures will facilitate delivery of a flood alleviation scheme in The Lane.
