THE number of coronavirus cases in Colchester increased by 315 in the latest 24 hours, official figures show and one more death was recorded.

The rate of infection in Colchester now stands at 21,494 cases per 100,000 people, lower than the England average of 22,256.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 129,544 over the period, to 14,862,138.

There was also one more death recorded yesterday and three deaths in the Colchester area in the past week where a positive Covid test has been recorded in the previous 28 days. That is a decrease on nine the previous week.

The figures also show 77 per cent of people in Colchester have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine - 138,991 people aged 12 and over had received both jabs by Tuesday.

In the Tendring area, the number of infections increased by 204 in 24 hours with one more death being recorded.

The rate of infection there now stands at 19,929 cases per 100,000 people.

There was also one more Covid related death in the district meaning 639 people have now died there including four deaths in the past week.

The figures released yesterday also showed 82 per cent of people in Tendring aged over 12 have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine - a total of 113,001.
