Throughout the past, difficult year, music has helped and united a lot of people and got us through a hard year! Let’s take a look at the world’s most loved songs and artists of 2021.

Coming in at the 5th globally most streamed song is “Levitating” by Dua Lipa (feat. DaBaby). However, in August 2021, DaBaby’s credit had been removed from the song. Dua removed his credit due to continuing controversies of the American rapper being a homophobic bigot.

At 4th is “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo. In 3rd place we have “STAY” by The Kid LAROI (with Justin Bieber).

In 2nd place is MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) by Lil Nas X. The well-loved song was mildly inspired by another famous film of the same name, starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer.

With a whopping 1.1 billion streams, the most streamed song in the world, of 2021, is “driver’s license” by Olivia Rodrigo! Her second song on the list, what an achievement!

The new, young artist has taken the world by storm, especially as SOUR is her debut album! Shockingly, even with two songs being the globally most streamed, she sadly did not make it into the Top 5 Most Streamed Artists.

The most listened to artists quite surprisingly did not have a song in the Top 5 “Globally Most Listened To Songs”. Even so, here are the 3 most streamed artists of 2021.

In 3rd place is the famous KPOP band BTS with 8 billion streams!

Just after, in 2nd, comes Taylor Swift with a massive 9 billion streams! With the re-release of her album “Red”, her attempt at regaining ownership of her songs, her loyal fans listened to their hearts content.

The most listened to artist of 2021 is rapper Bad Bunny! After releasing three albums in 2020, he released no new albums in 2021 and still managed to become the most streamed artist of 2021!

Fortunately, or unfortunately, for some, COVID has spread throughout the music world as well! As people were getting their vaccines, the songs they were listening to were pretty funny.

In an attempt to get the nation to feel united with a playlist Oliver Dowdon, the UK CUlture Secretary, created the 'Vaccine Playlist'. Featuring in the famous list are songs like “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Crimes of Passion and “The Cure” by Lady Gaga, both obviously very fitting songs for the playlist. However, there were no songs by The Cure or The Vaccines featured, to mine and others disappointment.

With COVID restrictions calming slightly, more music events will be on, let’s hope for a better 2022 and happy new year!
