CALLS for a new bus route have been made by a councillor wanting to ease congestion in Highwoods.
With the construction of Trinity School being delayed yet again earlier this year, the 120 pupils enrolled at Trinity are currently travelling to the Gilberd School.
But Councillor Gerard Oxford, who represents The Highwoods Group for the Highwoods ward, said one of the unintended effects of this was the significant congestion around the Gilberd School site – and he called for a bus service to be introduced to alleviate the traffic.
He said: “We are bombarded by emails from residents who can’t get to their homes because of the traffic.

“What I’ve asked the Department of Education, as one of the drivers behind this, is that they pay for public buses to ferry the pupils to and from the Trinity School on the Gilberd site, until Trinity’s permanent buildings are open.”
He added: “It’s not the fault of either school – it’s partly a Department for Education problem where they don’t act quickly enough.”
The Trinity School had previously been due to open later this year at the Chesterwell site, in Mile End - but is now not expected to open until 2023 at the earliest.
