A MAN has suffered serious injuries while a woman has been arrested after a car smashed into a building during the early hours of the morning.
Essex Police are currently on the scene of a nasty crash in East Street, Colchester, which is believed to have occurred at about 4am this morning.
The emergency services, including paramedics and two Colchester fire crews were called after a car left the road before striking a property.
A man trapped in the vehicle had to be cut free by firefighters before he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A woman has been arrested in connection with the crash.
As a result of the incident traffic has started to build throughout Colchester as driver look to use alternative routes.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "The road will remain closed throughout this morning’s rush hour as our investigations continue.
"We would urge drivers to find a suitable alternative route. We will issue an update as soon as we practicably can. Thank you."
