A SCHOOL say it is monitoring its situation after a letter to parents and carers confirmed a rise in Covid cases.

Parents and carers of students at Ormiston Rivers Academy in Burnham-on-Crouch were sent letters on Wednesday (December 1) to say if current measures to protect students and staff against Covid fail, the school may have to consider a move to online learning for some year groups.

It reintroduced its Covid Outbreak Management Plan in November but positive Covid cases within the school have risen.

A spokesman for the academy told the Standard: "The health and safety of our students, staff and the wider community is always of the utmost importance.

“We currently have no plans to reinstate online education, however, we wanted to be clear and transparent with our academy community about our contingency plans.

“We are working closely with Essex County Council and Public Health England to carefully monitor the situation, while ensuring we all continue to adhere to the robust safety measures already in place."

Principal Joanne Williams promised to give parents and carers at least 48 hours' notice if learning from home was introduced by the school.
