COLCHESTER United youngster Sam Cornish has extended his loan deal with Maldon and Tiptree until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder has impressed for Wayne Brown's Jammers side since joining them earlier this season and has made 12 appearances for them.

Cornish has registered a handful of assists and one goal in the process for the Pitching In Isthmian League division north outfit.

He has also featured regularly for Colchester's under-23s this season, under Dave Huzzey and Richard Hall.

Cornish played for the U's in their 2-0 Professional Development League defeat at Cardiff City, earlier this week.

Cornish penned his first professional deal with Colchester in the summer, signing a one-year deal.

He followed in the footsteps of fellow academy starlets Billy Cracknell and Harry Beadle in signing a one-year contract with the U's.

Cornish travelled to Tranmere Rovers with Colchester's first-team squad for their final game of last season.

The U's academy player, who has been at the U's for the last ten years since under-nine level, was an unused substitute for the 0-0 draw at Prenton Park.

Cornish impressed for the U's under-23s throughout the 2020/21 Professional Development League season, and was rewarded by being named in the final matchday squad of the season.
