The A12 was closed for more than three hours after an incident involving a lorry last night.

Emergency services were called to the road near to junction 25 at Marks Tey after the lorry shed its load.

Essex Travel news described the debris as 'rubble'.

Police closed the Ipswich-bound carriage way for a mile between junction 25 and 26.

Drivers were forced to follow a diversion and come off the A12 at the Marks Tey Exit.

The road was closed from just before 5pm until 8pm.

At the time a spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are on the scene of an incident on the northbound A12 near to junction 25 after a lorry shed its load.

"A full closure of the Ipswich-bound carriageway is in place for about one mile.
