PLANS have been submitted to convert a dog groomers into a pie and mash shop.

David Carter has applied to turn Mersea Dog Grooming into Mersea Island Pie and Mash, at 5 Queens Corner, West Mersea.

Tiles have already been installed in the kitchen area and the shop cleaned and painted throughout.

If successful, Mr Carter plans to have four tables on the shopfloor, as well as a counter area to serve from.

The shop also plans to provide a delivery service to hungry islanders.

In the planning application, the applicant writes: “We are looking to do a small, friendly pie and mash shop to serve the locals and passing public.

“We propose to not affect any other businesses and [will] bring a much-needed food shop on to the island.

“We have been warmly welcomed by the majority of Mersea Island [and] we have kept the name in fitting with the island, as our main focus is to provide and work alongside our fellow neighbours.

“Also [we] believe we will bring more customers into the Spar.”

A small bin outside the front of the shop will be installed and locked away, which will be disposed of daily.
