COLCHESTER United goalkeeper Jake Turner's fine performance against Newport County has been rewarded after he was named in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Week.

Turner was in excellent form for the U's in the 1-1 draw on Friday night, making a number of excellent saves.

The highlight of on-loan Newcastle United keeper's display against the Exiles was arguably his superb first-half double save to deny both Oli Cooper and Courtney Baker-Richardson from close range.

Turner's performance has been acknowledged in the shape of his inclusion in the Team of the Week, powered by ratings.

Colchester boss Hayden Mullins praised the young goalkeeper following his impressive performances since coming into the U's starting line-up in place of the injured Shamal George.

Mullins said: "Jake has come into the team for a couple of games now and has been really key.

"His distribution is excellent and he's a real safe pair of hands - he's done well.”
