A DETERMINED gamer has raised hundreds of pounds to help a charity continue supporting cancer patients after completing an ambition gaming marathon.
Brandon Beedon, 22, of Colchester, tackled 24-hours of solid gaming from Friday until Saturday with a view of generating money for Macmillan Cancer Support
During the thumb-aching challenge, which was streamed live online and at one point had 300 real-time viewers, he played PC games such as Rocket League and Dota 2.
Brandon, who says gaming helps his mental health, also tried his hand at the tower defence game Bloons TD 6, as well as Outlast, and Crab Game.
There were also a host of gaming goals which Brandon achieved as he made his through a plethora of digital universes and internet worlds.
Although playing games for hours sounds fun, Brandon admits the sleep-depriving session was far from easy, but determination and caffeine boosts got him through.
“It was very tiring, but it was so worth it and a lot of fun and it tested my endurance as well,” added Brandon, who works in games recruitment.
“At about 4am until 5am I debated logging off but I felt a push to keep going as I only had six hours left to go and I had at least six Red Bulls.
“There was one moment when I got the attention of another Twitch streamer who hosted me and said that what I was doing was great and for an amazing cause.”
In total, Brandon’s efforts helped raise just shy of £200 for MacMillan Cancer Support, which will be used to provide aid and advice to those diagnosed with the condition.
Brandon said: “Cancer has not impacted me personally, but I wanted to do it for a cause and I understand cancer affect so many people.
“So, it feels great to raise the money and I want to thank those who did support me in doing that as well.”
