A new Aldi store in Colchester has opened to customers for the first time.

Olympic champion Beth Shriever cut the ribbon alongside pupils from Friars Grove Primary School when the store at Stane Park opened this morning.

The store replaces the pre-existing store on London Road and will be run by manager Karl Mitchell, along with a team of 35 employees.

Marie King, who is an Aldi store assistant, helped open the store. Mr Mitchell wanted to commend her courage while she undergoes cancer treatment.

“It was great to speak with the children at Friars Grove Primary School about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family. Hopefully I’ve also managed to inspire the pupils to keep active and try different sports.”
