COLCHESTER Zoo’s very own answer to Harry Kane has become a father after welcoming the zoo’s latest exciting arrival.

Female L’Hoest’s monkey, Tutsi gave birth to a healthy baby after a gestation period of five months, on September 20.

The zoo revealed the newborn is doing “extremely well” and has settle within the group under the watchful eye of mum and dad, Kane.

Tutsi herself was born at the zoo in 2014 while dad, Kane, who was named after the famous Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, joined the group of monkeys in July 2018 from Budapest.

Gazette:

The new arrival is yet to be sexed but once this is confirmed the zoo’s animal care team will be giving it a name.

Baby L’Hoest’s monkeys such as this one are born with orange hair which darkens when they are about three months old.

They develop a white ruff which frames their face with distinctive deep-set orange eyes.

Gazette:

Sadly, this species is classed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species, so this birth is a vital step towards the conservation of this species.

You can spot the family of L’Hoest’s monkeys in their home at Colchester Zoo’s Edge of Africa.
