A CLICK and collect service has launched for recycling containers in Colchester.

After a successful trial of click and collect garden sacks in April and May, residents can now order free replacement recycling containers online and collect them from a nearby stockist.

Initially, the new Colchester Council-run service will have two collection locations: West Mersea Town Council office and Colchester Foodbank, in Tollgate Centre Shopping Park.

If successful, the council will look to offer more pick-up locations in the future.

As part of the service, residents can order a green box for cans or glass, caddy for food waste, clear bags for paper/cardboard or plastics, garden sacks for those with a sack garden waste collection.

Delivery will remain an option for any residents not in an area covered by a pick-up location, those residents with an assisted collection or those requiring a wheelie bin.

Simon Crow, Colchester Council portfolio holder for environment and sustainability, said: “I’m delighted we’re rolling out this new system, making it easier for residents to order and pick up recycling containers at a time that suits them.

“I hope this new system will support everyone in Colchester to recycle more and help to reduce the impact of climate change.”
