NUISANCE neighbours causing trouble at a property in Colchester have been kicked out after they were served with a closure order.

Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) applied for a closure order on an address in Maidenburgh Street, Colchester, after complaints of anti-social behaviour.

The application was granted at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

A CBH spokesman said: “Following complaints of anti-social behaviour at an address in Maidenburgh Street, we were left with no option but to serve a closure order on the property and to also seek a possession order.

“We take complaints of anti-social behaviour seriously and will always work with the police to safeguard neighbourhoods.

“This action shows we are committed to supporting safer communities and improving the quality of life of all residents.”

A spokesman for Essex Police’s Colchester community policing team said officers assisted in securing the order.

He said: “The property had become a centre for anti-social behaviour.

“Through partnership working we have managed to secure the order to prevent this behaviour from continuing and make the community around this property a safer and more pleasant place to live and visit.”

Police and CBH last issued a closure order on a Colchester property in August, as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

The police spokesman said: “One of our force priorities is to crack down on anti-social behaviour.

“We often work with partner agencies to decide the best agency placed to deal with such matters and how we can work together to resolve the problems.

“A closure order gives the police and the local authority the power to prosecute anybody in breach of the order and the conditions can include having no persons on the premises including the owner or tenant.”

A closure order can prohibit access to the premises at all times or specified times only and can apply for three months.
