THE granddaughter of the country’s most famous politician will host a very special evening to celebrate the publication of her mother’s wartime diaries.
Emma Soames, whose grandad was Winston Churchill, is set to appear at this year’s Frinton Literary Festival on October 22 from 7.30pm.
The event, held in association with the Churchill Archives Centre, Cambridge, will see Emma discuss her mother’s book, Mary Churchill's War.
The conversation will be led by Allen Packwood, director of the Churchill Archives Centre and archivist Katharine Thomson, who edited Mary’s revealing diaries.
The fascinating book gives a unique perspective of a historical moment in which Prime Minister Winston Churchill oversaw the UK’s fight in the Second World War.
The candid literary entries also capture first-hand what it was like to be a young woman coming of age in the wartime years.
Fittingly the evening will be held at the McGrigor Hall, in Frinton, a seaside town to which Churchill would often take his family on pre-war holidays.
A spokesman for the festival added: “One of those visits is immortalised in one of his rare paintings, An Avenue at Frinton on Sea, which today sell for millions of pounds.”
