MALDON has made it into the ten WORST places to build your own home.

Plumbnation looked at a series of factors to draw up a list of the country's best – and worst – locations for people to build their own Grand Designs.

They include the cost of land, number of planning applications granted and increase in property value over ten years.

Maldon came tenth from bottom with a rating of 6.4.

The cost of land for a 250 m2 plot was £94.750, the number of planning applications granted was 74 per cent and the increase in property value was 53 per cent.

Kensington and Chelsea, where land costs a staggering £4million for a 250 m2 plot, came bottom.

Dartford, North Hertfordshire and Tunbridge Wells made up the top three places for self-builders.
