THE organiser of a festival says his team are preparing to “relaunch” ahead of next year’s event and right any of the wrongs experienced by guests this summer.

Clacton Family Festival, which took place on the Hawk Fruit Farm site, in Weeley, is set to return in 2022 following this year’s inaugural event.

It will specifically run on August 27 and once again strive to be the ideal fun-filled day out for parents and carers with young children.

The announcement comes in spite of the fact some guests who attended this year’s event left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.

However, managing director Philip Gilgunn, 45, who also oversaw the Weeley Tribute Festival and Proper Fest, says he is still proud of what was achieved.

He said: “We obviously had problems with staff and suppliers pulling out at the last minute on the Saturday but in these times this is happening all over the UK.

“But we also raised thousands of pounds throughout lockdown for the Clacton FoodBank, Dance for Ila, Help Alexa Walk and Sponsor A Sibling, to name but a few.

"Although not everything was how we intended due to circumstances beyond our control lots of people still had a great day and made some amazing memories.

“We feel our three festivals over the August Bank Holiday brought amazing value to the local community after the dark times of coronavirus.”

Looking ahead to next summer’s festival, Mr Gilgunn has now promised next year’s offering will run more smoothly and says preparations are already underway.

He said: “We are getting ready to relaunch Clacton Family Festival and issue people who had a bad experience with a free ticket and a £10 food and drink voucher.

"We have already had some amazing companies reach out to us wanting to be a part of next year and we can't wait to make this festival so much bigger and better in 2022.

"I'd just like to add how proud I am of all of our staff who really stepped up under pressure to ensure the event this year continued safely.

"We can't wait to welcome everyone back next year. Thank you all for your understanding - I just want to make it right.”
