Heavy rain made it a miserable start for many in Colchester this morning.

With temperatures dropping and the sun a rare sight this week, it really does feel like autumn has arrived and the heady days of summer are over.

The good news is the downpours will ease up later today, but are likely to return again tomorrow.

And the Met Office has now issued a weather warning for heavy rain and wind for Colchester and north Essex tomorrow.

What about next week?

The Met Office says it will be showery and blustery at times in Eastern England during the early part of next week.

Temperatures are expected to be below average for much of the UK, with the Met Office's long-term outlook adding: "An unsettled period of weather is likely across the UK through the first part of this period.

"Showers or longer spells of rain will affect many areas, these heavy at times, although some drier and brighter intervals are also likely.

"Strong winds are also possible in places, particularly along coasts.

"Temperatures are likely to be below average.

"During the second half of this period, indications are that drier and more settled weather may begin to develop across the south of the UK."
