Another dispersal order is being put in place in Colchester town centre to prevent incidents of violence or anti-social behaviour.

It is the fourth such order which has been authorised in Colchester since the start of August.

A similar order was in place last weekend and saw 30 people dispersed from the town centre for alcohol-related anti-social behaviour.

It will be in place between 6pm today (Friday September 24) until 6pm on Sunday (September 26).

Inspector Jon Evans, from the Colchester Community Policing Team, said: “We’re putting this order in place to ensure anyone working or going for a meal and a drink in the town centre can do so safely.

“Earlier this month we saw a number of alcohol-related incidents where people were injured in the town centre and it’s not acceptable.

“These incidents have a big impact on people want to enjoy a night out safely as well as the businesses and venues in the town centre.

“This order will allow officers to move people suspected of causing anti-social behaviour from the town centre and previous orders have been very successful.

“Last weekend alone 30 people were dispersed from the town centre for these very reasons.”
