A spokesman for Essex Police said: "In the year to the end of August there were more than 1,100 fewer crimes compared the previous year, including nearly 150 fewer violence with injury offences.

"That means there were 150 fewer victims of the most serious violent crime.

"Fewer than nine people per 1,000 living in the district were affected by these offences meaning you’re really unlikely to be a victim of violent crime.

"There were also nearly 200 fewer violence without injury offences.

"Our Op Raptor and Disruptor teams are working hard to tackle those intent on doing you harm.

"In the first six months of this year, our Op Raptor team made 272 arrests across the county.

"Reports of sexual offences are rising but that indicates victims are more confident in reporting them to us.

"We have specialist teams to investigate a range of different offences, are utilising new measures to better support victims, and are working with partners to ensure victims get access to support services."
