COLCHESTER DANCERS are proud to have performed with X-factor entry during the Anti Loo Roll Festival.

The JC Pole and Aerial dancers thrilled audiences with their show side by side with singer Stevi Ritchie.

The festival took place in the Castle Park two weeks ago in support of the Anti Loo Roll Brigade - a community group which helped vulnerable people throughout lockdown.

During the festival, the nine acrobats were flying through the air, hanging from silks and hoops and doing poi – a trick which involves winging tethered weights in a geometric or rhythmic pattern.

The acrobats were swinging and spiralling to perform breath-taking feats during three of the songs Stevi Ritchie performed.

They also had a chance to dance on their own to the all-time favourite jam Lady Marmalade.

The JC school, which is based in Moorside Business Park, was founded ten years ago by personal trainer Jennie Campbell.

It welcomes people of all ages, with its youngest dancer being 5-years-old and the oldest – 65.

Mrs Campbell, 43, of Colchester, said : “We were preparing for a good couple of months.

“The Friday night before the actual performance we were down at 11 at night still training.

“We have done smaller events and birthday parties, but it was the first time we have done a big festival like that, so we were very nervous.

“But we are dealing with things in the air, hanging off equipment, and nerves on top of that."

JC school’s participation in the festival is a key milestone for the club, but the biggest award was the audience’s support.

Mrs Campbell added: “They loved it. Especially when you do some of the big moves, and the drops and you hear a gasp.

“It was nice to perform and get together for something so positive.
