EXTRA police patrols were put in place in Clacton over the weekend following a murder probe in Clacton.

Harry Burkett, 21, of Grays, suffered a fatal stab wound in Orwell Road, Clacton, shortly after midnight on September 12.

A 16-year-old boy, of Clacton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with one count of murder.

He was due to appear for a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday.

An 18-year-old woman, also from Clacton, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and was released on bail until October 7.

Essex Police said additional patrols were put in place across Clacton over the weekend to provide reassurance to the community, which it said will “naturally be in shock after the tragic events”.

Chief Insp Martin Richards, district commander, said: “There is no doubt that the death of a young man in our town has caused concern throughout the community.

“My officers are mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers and they feel the loss of life each and every time it sadly happens.

“There were additional and highly visible patrols in place in Clacton over the weekend.”

Harry’s heartbroken family have described him as a much-loved “fun character” who had only visited Clacton to enjoy a night of clubbing with a friend.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he sadly died.
