AN overturned lorry is causing delays on a busy roundabout in Essex.

The vehicle has become stranded where the A130 meets the A12 in Howe Green.

It is understood to have happened around 2.30pm.

The lorry has overturned at the exit with Southend Road but traffic is said to be slow on all approaches.

The A130 southbound has now been closed at the roundabout and traffic is being diverted down Southend Road instead.

Traffic heading northbound from Southend Road is also stranded as the road is blocked.

Emergency services are at the scene.

In an update at 3pm, Essex Fire Service said: "This is an ongoing incident.

"Please avoid the area while the recovery and clean-up operation takes place."

Crews from Southend, Great Baddow, Rayleigh Weir and South Woodham Ferrers have all been called to the scene.

In an update at 3.35pm, Essex Fire Service said the overturned lorry contained scaffolding poles and 80 litres of diesel had leaked on to the carriageway.

A spokesman added: "Traffic is able to move past the scene safely but please continue to avoid the area if you can.

"Approximately 80 litres of diesel has leaked and crews are awaiting the arrival of the Environment Agency.

"UK Power Networks has been requested to make an electricity pylon safe before the lorry can be moved."
