A WOMAN who says she can’t sleep at night following a break in at her flat is appealing for help to catch the culprit.

Charmaine Page, who is 25 next week is hoping to spread the word after her flat was burgled on Friday, September 4.

She says she was left shaken following the incident which saw a man break in to her flat multiple times between 10.30pm and 11.15pm.

The suspected thief struck while Charmaine and her partner were out celebrating a friend’s birthday.

After receiving a call from her neighbour, who had called the police after seeing the man breaking in, Charmaine’s partner and his friend rushed back to the flat to confront the burglar.

After trying to trap the suspected burglar, he was able to get away after jumping from a bedroom window but not before being caught on CCTV.

Essex Police are investigating but Charmaine says she wants help to catch the person which left her terrified.

She said: “I’m so curious to know what the hell goes on in someone’s head when they think it’s ok to rob people, it’s disgraceful.

“My partner went to the front and shouted through the window then shut the window so the bloke couldn’t get out but my partner saw through the window the bloke packing up the Xbox One and internet hub into a rucksack.

“As my partner started to unlock the security door, this startled the bloke and he jumped out the bedroom window.

“My partner and friend chased after him as much as they could but the bloke started jumping fences.”

Charmaine says the break in has impacted her mental health.

She added: “My reaction was mixed. I honestly can’t pinpoint what I was feeling, I was too shaken up.

“I suffer from mental health and mobility problems and this has affected me and my partner so much we can’t sleep at night and I’m constantly looking over my shoulder and have to have someone with me now when I go out even to take the bins out.

“I would like to raise awareness just in case he tries to strike again and to let people know to be careful.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are investigating after a burglary was reported to us in a home in Rue Des Jeunes, Braintree, at about 11.10pm on September 4.

“It was reported that a man was inside a home whilst the occupant was not at home.

“The man was disturbed when the homeowner returned. He then fled the scene.

“We are liaising with the victims to assess what items have been taken.”
