THE founder of a Colchester-based mental health wellbeing scheme will be sharing his knowledge on how to deal with adversity.
Simon Collyer, who founded Sailing Wellness, will talk at the Southampton International Boat Show next Saturday.
Mr Collyer, who lives in Avignon Close, Colchester, helps military personnel overcome PTSD, stress, anxiety and physical injuries using radio-controlled sailing. He will be demonstrating how this novel project helps people.
He said: “The goal is to break the negative cycle where people who have suffered a setback – such as injury or mental trauma. They sit and brood at home by themselves, meaning a physical injury can slowly become a mental one.
“We plan to restore self-confidence and a zest for life. To ignite the participant’s sense of humour and bring people together.
“To use sailing as a new way of life by breaking the destructive cycle of negative thinking.”
