Detective Sergeant Paul Olney, of Colchester CID, is leading the investigation.
He said: “While we have collected high quality CCTV, both from Colchester Council and venues in the Queen Street area, we know there could be other footage out there which will be useful to our investigation.
“It is a route which is well-used by taxi drivers so it is possible some of the town’s drivers could have dashcam footage of the incident or the lead up to it.”
He added: “My team have worked tirelessly to establish the events in the lead up to this incident but if you think you could help, please get in touch.”
