Parts of the UK are set to be hit by heavy wind and rain this month according to forecasters, as the last piece of the summer weather disappears.

The Met Office has described an “unsettled” month ahead, with rather miserable weather to look forward to on the horizon.

This is partly due to an area of low pressure set to move in from Sunday, combined with the effects of “increased tropical storm activity” in the US.

What’s the situation for Essex?

According to the Met Office long forecast the weather up until the 5 September is consistent with what’s been happening in the second half of August.

It will remain cloudy, but with still a few “warm sunny intervals” to develop.

However, it’s from 6-15 September where the forecast lines up with the Met Office predictions for the month.

Long spells of rain become far more likely, with the caveat that some parts of the east may hang on to drier conditions.

There is also the potential for “the risk of some thunderstorms mixed in.”

Tropical storm activity starts to make an impact

It’s from 16-30 September that the tropical storm from the US, with weather being increasingly “unsettled.”

Rainfall is expected to be “above average” with a small chance of it easing off towards the end of the month.

Temperatures should also see some fluctuation.

Alex Burkill, a Met Office forecaster, told the PA news agency: “It’s fair to say the beginning of the month will be rather settled, with high pressure dominating.

“There will be drizzle and cloud in the east this week, but in the west certain regions will certainly hit the low 20s and see glimpses of sunshine here and there.

“However, this could perhaps be the last of the summery weather until the end of September, with a prolonged spell of unsettled conditions and low pressure from Sunday.”
