COLCHESTER’S first ever festival promoting an eco-conscious and sustainable lifestyle is set to take place in Castle Park this weekend.
Run free-of-charge by a team of volunteers, the Eco Festival takes place on Saturday in the award-winning park.
Organisers hope to inspire positive social changes among the town’s population by offering an entertaining and informative insight into a more sustainable way of living, with a host of stalls and activities on offer.
Malcolm Laquis-Alden, project manager for the festival, said: “We are living in a climate emergency and we all need to make changes.
“It’s a big ask, but we need to change.
“The way we eat, the way we shop, what we buy, how we use water, how we travel.
“It’s the every day changes in how we consume products and services that can have a positive social impact on our community and the planet.
“Come along and see what’s on offer. You can even try out some e-bikes and e-scooters.”
There’s set to be something for everyone at the event with more than 70 stalls on everything from eco-conscious soap to the latest renewable energy technology.
There will also be a main stage with music and performances as well as children’s activities, walkabout entertainers, a healing tent and a range of vegan and vegetarian food and drink stalls.
Prizes can also be won, including the likes of Colchester Zoo and Leisure World passes.

Andrew Wilkinson, project manager of Colchester’s environmental centre en-form, said: “By learning, and doing things differently, together we can all make a big difference.
“It is our aspiration that all future events - any event - will be sustainable, carbon-neutral and ecologically sound.”
The festival, which is free-of-charge to enter, has been organised with support from Octopus Energy, Roy Tolley Motor Group, Love Essex, Active Essex, East of England Coop, Spin, GridServe, ecoliving, Colchester Borough Council, Our Colchester, Orsted, KG Moore and Colchester Green Party.
The festivals takes place in Lower Castle Park between 10am and 6pm on Saturday.
Organisers are asking attendees to book their free ticket online before visiting.
