SCORES on the doors reveals the latest food hygiene ratings for restaurants and takeaways.

We have taken a look at the latest ratings to see how restaurants, takeaways and other establishments which sell food have fared.

What do the numbers mean?

0 - urgent improvement necessary

1 - major improvements necessary

2 - improvements necessary

3 - business generally satisfactory

4 - business good on assessment

5 - business seen as very good

Each restaurant is also judged on three categories ‘food hygiene and safety’, ‘structural compliance’ and ‘confidence in management’.

Each section is awarded a mark from ‘very good’ to ‘very bad’ and for ‘confidence in management’ from ‘high’ to ‘no confidence’.

Nando's Head Street

The chain was rated as five for its Head Street restaurant. 

Food Hygiene and Safety and structural compliance were found to be good and confidence in management was high.

Dinners Direct

The Wivenhoe-based caterers were given a five rating. 

Food Hygiene and Safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all rated good.

The Albert, Cowdray Avenue

The restaurant was rated five by inspectors. 

Food Hygiene and Safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all rated good.

The Gilt Rooms Ltd, Mersea

The venue was also handed a five rating by inspectors. 

Food Hygiene and Safety was found to be very good, structural compliance was good and confidence in management was high.

Colne Valley Golf Club

The golf club was handed a five rating. 

Food Hygiene and Safety and structural compliance were very good and confidence in management good.

The Ancient Briton, Iceni Way

The venue also recieved a five rating. 

Food Hygiene and Safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all rated good.

Mat's Kitchen @ The Fat Cat, Butt Road

The venue was awarded a five rating by inspectors. 

Food Hygiene and Safety was found to be very good, structural compliance was good and confidence in management was high.

Cake side of life, Colchester

The Eldred Avenue caterer was given a five rating. 

Food Hygiene and Safety was found to be very good, structural compliance was good and confidence in management was high.

Pies & Puds Essex, Chapel Street South

Inspectors praised the venue and handed it a five rating. 

Food Hygiene and Safety was found to be very good and  structural compliance and confidence in management were rated good.

Costa Coffee, Culver Square

The coffee shop was rated five. 

Food Hygiene and Safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all rated good.

Pizza Hut, North Station Road

The takeaway was handed a one rating. 

Food Hygiene and Safety was found to be fair, structural compliance was bad and inspectors had little confidence in management.  

German Doner Kebab, High Street

The restaurant was handed a five rating. 

Food Hygiene and Safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all rated good.
