AFGHANISTAN veteran Jaco Van Gass has won another medal on his Paralympic debut.

Van Gass, a former Colchester paratrooper, won his second medal within 24 hours this morning in Tokyo.

He took bronze in the time trial with his factored time of 1:05.569, behind gold medal winner Li Zhangyu of China and silver medallist Alexandre Leaute of France.

All three riders set new world records for their respective classes.

Van Gass offers was born in South Africa before suffering life-changing injuries when he was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in 2009 while serving with the Parachute Regiment.

He lost his left arm at the elbow, as well as suffering a collapsed lung, shrapnel wounds, punctured internal organs, a broken tibia and a fractured knee, requiring 11 operations and intense rehabilitation.

Inspired by London 2012 as he adjusted to life outside the army, the 35-year-old has rebuilt his life as an elite athlete and completed an extraordinary journey by getting the better of compatriot Fin Graham in the Izu Velodrome on Thursday.

His bronze medal on Friday morning adds to his gold from Thursday in the individual pursuit event, where he broke the world record on en route to romping to gold in Tokyo.
