A NEW independent short film festival is taking place in Colchester next month.

The Colchester Indie Short Film Festival will be held at Curzon, in Queen Street.

Created by Nick Pelas, of the Stage Theatre Company, the festival will showcase the works of the borough talented independent filmmakers.

Judges will decide the winner of the best film at the festival as well as the runner up and one highly commended short.

Mr Pelas, who lives in Clacton, said: "I have done this all on my own without funding and sponsorship to give the area a boost after Covid.

"My background is theatre, directing fringe in London since 2008.

"I was originally going to use either somewhere in the Hythe or the YMCA in Colchester but the submissions are of such quality that I have opted to use the Curzon."

Films must be a maximum of 20 minutes in length but can be of any genre.
