CASES to come before magistrates last week include a man who allegedly caused serious injury by dangerous driving.

This is a round-up of some of the cases heard by north Essex magistrates.

  • A MAN has appeared in court charged with burgling a home in Colchester before making off in a stolen Land Rover.

James Lomas, 19, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on August 6 charged with two counts of theft.

It is alleged he stole a handbag and a set of keys to a Land Rover Discovery from a home in Booth Avenue.

It is further alleged he stole the Land Rover, the thefts allegedly taking place between February 15 and 16 last year.

Lomas, of Gainsborough Drive, Southend, did not enter pleas to the charges and was released on unconditional bail until a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on September 3.

  • A TEENAGER has appeared in court charged with possessing more than 100 indecent videos of children.

Kieran Sharod, 18, is alleged to have been in possession of 80 images and 126 videos of the most serious category A in January last year.

He appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on August 6 charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images.

Sharod, of The Dales, Harwich, was released on unconditional bail until a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on September 3.

  • A MAN found with around 90g of cannabis has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.

Mustafa Bolat, 24, was found in possession of the class B drug on August 6.

He was also found with 0.6g of cocaine.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on August 7, he admitted possession of a class B and class A drug.

Bolat, of Roosevelt Way, Colchester, was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and prosecution costs of £105.

  • A MAN has admitted to inappropriately touching a girl under the age of 13.

Jack Barfoot, 32, is charged with intentionally touching a young girl in Clacton on August 8.

Appearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on August 10, he also admitted using or threatening unlawful violence.

Barfoot, of Hurst Drive, Waltham Cross, was remanded in custody until a sentencing hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on September 7.

  • A DEALER who was found to be carrying tear gas is set to be sentenced at a crown court.

Craig Cook, 30, admitted carrying the gas canister in Harwich in November 2019.

Appearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on August 10, he also admitted being concerned in the supply of a class A drug and possession of cannabis.

Cook, of Willow Way, Harwich, will appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on September 7 for sentence.

  • A MAN has denied causing serious injury by dangerous driving on an A12 junction.

Barry Goody, 40, is alleged to have caused a complainant serious injuries by driving a Ford Transit van dangerously at an A12 junction at Langham on February 10.

He denied the charge at a hearing at Colchester Magistrates' Court on August 10.

Goody, of Falkenham, Ipswich, was released on unconditional bail until a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on September 7.
