AN established butcher’s shop has turned adversity into triumph with the launch of a mobile service.

Millin’s of Tiptree was established in 1969 as a traditional family butchers and is much-loved in the community.

However, during lockdown, the butchers were getting requests for more home deliveries.

The butchers started delivering on more days for people who couldn’t or didn’t feel safe leaving their homes.

The mobile shop truck was launched with this in mind and has gone from strength to strength.

Spokeswoman for G Millin and Sons, Charlotte Abrehart said: “We have been going now for five months and have several regular customers but are seeing new faces all the time.”

The mobile shop brings a range of fresh meats as well as ready meals, groceries, and most famously sausage rolls and pies to customers from the village and surrounding areas.

If customers need anything specific they can call or email the main shop, in Church Road, and staff will put it by for them.

“Lucy drives the mobile shop and has done an amazing job at planning the routes and roads we go down,” said Charlotte.

“But it is very much a team effort to prepare the products and have the truck full of lovely goods on those days.”

It runs every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with three different routes.

The van can be found in Feering and Kelvedon on Wednesday, Tolleshunt Knights, Tolleshunt D’Arcy, Layer-de-la-Haye and Birch on Thursday and it is in Little Totham, Wickham Bishops, and Great Totham on Fridays.

Charlotte added: “We are proud how the public have reacted to our mobile shop and have received many comments, emails and calls to let us know how much people appreciate this service.”

Customers can track the van’s live location at millinsoftiptree.co.uk/mobile-shop-truck.

There is also a lunch truck which delivers to offices and businesses during weekdays.
