A GLIDING club was treated to a celebrity visit with a Love Island star taking to the skies over north Essex.

Love Island’s Maura Higgins got a taste of flight when she visited the Essex and Suffolk Gliding Club.

Based in Wormingford, the club offers people the chance to experience flying in the skies above north Essex in an engine-less glider.

Each glider seats two people, a passenger and a pilot, and is launched in to the air using a powered aircraft or a winch to tow the glider down the runway.

Maura Higgins flew with the gliding club but club officials admitted they didn’t realise who she was until after the flying experience.

The 30-year-old Irish TV personality posted a video of her flight on her TikTok and Instagram social media pages.

On social media, Maura described the day out as “the best experience”.

A spokesman for the club said: “I have spoken with John who was her pilot for the flight and he wasn’t aware she was a celebrity until somebody showed him the video on social media.

“Anybody can come and have a flight with us and we sell vouchers, which are available on our website.

“Maura was one of nine members of the public we flew that day and John said she really enjoyed the flight.”

The club is no stranger to welcoming celebrities.

It previously featured on ITV after former TOWIE star Ferne McCann also visited the club.

Ferne was filming for an episode of Ferne McCann: First Time Mum, a reality TV show which follows her day-to-day life as a new mother.

She visited the club as a 90th birthday gift to her grandad, Frank, who wanted to tick gliding off his bucket list.

The visit was aired last year and showed Ferne at the club as she watched her grandad take to the air.

On social media, Ferne said: “A day I will never forget. Gliding with my 90-year-old grandad.

“So grateful to my show First Time Mum that I get these amazing experiences.”
