DRIVERS are being warned to expect delays as two roads in Tiptree are set to close for more than 50 days.

Essex County Council has revealed parts of Grove Road and Barbrook Lane are set to close for 54 days from September 20.

Grove Road will be temporarily closed from its junction with Heycroft Lane.

Barbrook Lane will also temporarily close from its junction with Grove Road.

These closures are taking place while new connection works are undertaken by Gas Transportation Co Ltd.

Alternative routes will be available. Advance warning signs will be going up with the diversions in place, and residents will be receiving letters with the traffic management plans.

Access for emergency services and pedestrians will be maintained at all times.

The public notice also states the order “may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.”

Some residents in Tiptree have raised concerns with how the diversions will affect school runs.

One resident said: “Is it not a little disappointing this 54 days starts splat in September when with a bit of planning, overall vehicle and pedestrian access would be far less over the summer school holidays.

“It’s going to cause such upheaval and stress for those living on those roads, compounded by schools access.”

The resident also added: “Its going to really affect Grove Road and Barbrook Lane most directly, but basically also every other road in a wide loop to circumnavigate Tiptree.”

Tiptree Parish Council said it is still trying to assimilate what it will mean for the village.

A spokesman said: “It is obviously extremely disappointing - the duration of the closure, and associated inconvenience to many, appears to be excessive, and was not something we were made aware of when the new development, which we vehemently opposed, was approved.”

The development is a new 200-home estate off Barbrook Lane which was approved after an appeal.
