TRIBUTES have flooded in for a little five-year-old boy who died after an incident at a department store.

Gosbecks Primary School pupil Freddie Farrow suffered a serious head injury after a mirror struck him at Fenwick, in Colchester High Street, last month.

Despite the efforts of those at the scene and medical teams, he died from his injuries six days later.

The Colchester community has been rocked by the youngster’s death and dozens of residents have been posting their tributes to little Freddie on a book of condolences opened by the Gazette.

Evie Bushell, a classmate of Freddie at Gosbecks, said: “I’m going to miss Freddie very, very, very, very much.

“We were going to be in the same class again this year and we missed him at my birthday party. He was one of my bestest friends.”

Tara Copping, who knows the family, said the incident was “utterly heartbreaking”.

She added: “My daughter goes to college with your daughter, she will be there to support her when or if she returns.

“Having a little one myself, I just cannot comprehend what you all must be going through, myself and my daughter send you all our condolences and love in these heartbreaking times.”

Many residents who did not know Freddie also wanted to send their condolences to his family.

Rachel Green said: “Heaven has gained an angel - you will forever be in people’s thoughts little man.

“May you rest easy up there and keep shining down on your family.”

Rebecca Townrow said: “Even though we have never met, I just had to say how truly heartbroken I am for you all. Sending you all love and prayers.”

Following the tragedy, Colchester Community Group set up a fundraising page to support Freddie’s loved ones.

It has now raised more than £10,500, with one anonymous member of the public making a £5,000 donation.

Calling himself simply “a sympathiser”, he said: “So, so sorry for your loss in this tragic accident.

“As a father to a five and a two-year-old, I cannot imagine what you are going through, but hope that the pain lessens over time.”

Colchester Council is investigating the incident at the Fenwick store under its health and safety responsibilities.
