A PAIR of paddleboarders in distress, very cold and without lifejackets, were rescued by Essex Police's Marine Unit.
The unit was called on Sunday to help two paddleboarders stuck in the River Colne off the coast of East Mersea.
A spokesman for the unit said: "Planning and preparing for your trip is so important.
"Both [were] very cold, neither had life jackets or suitable clothing and were unaware of the tides. "[They were] rescued and taken ashore."
