A MAN has denied stalking a woman and pursuing a campaign of harassment against her by outing her as an escort to six of her family members.

Naveen Beefnah, 36, is alleged to have repeatedly harassed an escort between September 28 and October 20 last year.

Appearing at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, he denied a charge of stalking.

The court heard the particulars of the charge are that Beefnah, of Victory Place, West Mersea, allegedly traced six members of the complainant’s family, disclosing to them that she was working as an escort.

He is also alleged to have “uploaded and contacted” clients and friends of the alleged victim and made “unfounded allegations”.

These false allegations are alleged to have resulted in “irreparable damage” to her business, causing her to have to abandon her trade name.

Judge David Pugh highlighted some of the issues which will be raised in Beefnah’s defence.

He said: “He accepts some of the communications, but not all. He said it’s got to be put into context, there was no stalking.”

Turning to Beefnah, Judge Pugh said: “I have listed this trial in a warned list commencing on July 4 next year.

“That means the trial could start on that day or at any time over the following two weeks.

“At the trial you will have the right to give evidence.

“I am going to renew your bail, that is unconditional bail.

“I only do so on the basis there is a measure of protection already in place in relation to the complainant in the case.

“If at any time you are required to attend court and you fail to attend, that may be an offence in itself which could result in a sentence of imprisonment.”
