Cases to come before magistrates over the past week include a teenager who crashed his car into a tree while driving without insurance and a drink driver who rode an E-scooter.

  • A WOMAN who admitted carrying out two assaults and damaging a mirror is set to be sentenced at a crown court.

Nikki Griggs, 31, assaulted a woman and a police officer in Harwich in February.

Griggs, of Northbourne Road, Clacton, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 16.

She was released on bail, with conditions not to contact the victim or enter Harwich, until a sentencing hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on August 13.

  • A WOMAN who assaulted a police officer has been ordered to pay a £230 fine.

Gemma Smith, 35, admitted a charge of assaulting an emergency worker at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 16.

The attack took place in Frinton in June.

Smith, of Branscombe Close, Frinton, was fined £230, ordered to pay £75 in compensation and must pay prosecution costs of £105.

  • A MAN who rode an E-scooter while more than double the legal alcohol limit has been banned from the roads.

James Heaton, 29, was found to have driven the scooter in Colchester in June.

A breathalyser test recorded 75mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Appearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 16, Heaton, of Cheetah Close, Stanway, admitted a charge of drink driving.

He was fined £333 and banned from driving for a year.

  • A TEENAGER who crashed a car into a tree while driving without a valid licence or insurance has been hit with a fine.

Thomas Humphries, 18, drove a Hyundai in East Road, West Mersea, without due care and attention in May.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard he lost control after driving around a bend too fast, crashing into a tree and shrubs.

At a hearing on July 16, he was convicted of driving without due care and attention, and without a full licence or insurance.

Humphries, of Yorick Road, West Mersea, was fined £270, ordered to pay costs of £110 and his driving record was endorsed with eight penalty points.
