A FAMILY are desperately trying to sell their home to help their son follow his dream of becoming an American football player.

Nathan Seymour from Feering has been offered a place at Laney College in California.

The 19-year-old was hoping to receive some financial assistance, but the pandemic meant he wasn’t able to secure any game footage.

Now he has launched a go fund me page to help raise £10,000 to help with medical and tuition fees during his first year.

Determined not to give up, mum, Karen Seymour has also been trying to sell their family home but has so far been unsuccessful.

Karen said: “I put my house on the market to facilitate Nathan getting to the US, but it hasn’t sold in time.

“We desperately need the remainder to get him there, I fully intend to still sell my house.

“I had Covid in December, and this made me make lots of life changes. Covid is the reason Nathan has not got a scholarship as he didn’t have the opportunity to get any ‘game footage’ to send to the states as they weren’t allowed to play.”

So far generous donations have raised £1,400 on go fund me.

Nathan began playing football for Feering Falcons at the age of six before discovering his passion for American football.

He has gone one to play across the country including Colchester Gladiators, Ipswich Cardinals and Filton Pride in Bristol.

Nathan, who has also taken on his old job to raise some extra money, said: “I would love to be one of very few British athletes to get a shot in the US at this sport and want to put this country on the map and show that it is possible for you to make it no matter what country you live in.

“Any amount generously given will mean so much, even raising half of this goal would be astonishing to me.”

Gazette:

Laney College is famous for featuring on the Netflix show, Last Chance U which features elite athletes with difficult pasts turning their lives around to play college football.

Karen managed to save money to be able to book Nathan his flight to San Francisco which leaves on August 5, but the remaining money is needed to help him during his first year.
