ESSEX pop superstar Olly Murs has spoken of his excitement in advance of his homecoming gig at Colchester Castle Park this summer.

Olly, 37, who shot to fame on the sixth series of ITV’s X Factor, will arrive in town over the August Bank Holiday to delight crowds.

The gig is part of his 25 date tour spanning 2021 and 2022 in support of his triple platinum album Never Been Better.

Olly said he was delighted to get back on the road, with gigs being curtailed for almost 18 months due to Covid restrictions.

“I’m super excited, time to let loose,” he said.

“It’s been a rubbish 18 months so looking forward to entertaining my fans again, getting on stage and doing what I do best.

“I can’t wait to see the band again.

“There’s always a medley or two that we do at my summer shows that have become a bit of a tradition, so we’ve brought back an old medley that we love doing, and I’m sure the fans and the people watching are going to love it.”

At the Castle Park show Olly will be performing his biggest hits as well as tracks from his latest album.

And he says fans can expect a high-energy performance featuring covers of some favourite tunes by other artists as well.

He said: “I’m excited to entertain the fans again, I love entertaining people.

“I’ve been entertaining people on social media and Tik Tok, but now it’s time to do the real thing and I can’t wait to get on stage again.

“So expect lots of energy, and be prepared to dance your feet off.

“It’s been so long since I’ve been on stage, it’s been almost two years so really looking forward to singing all the fan favourites, right back from 2010, and we’ve also got some fantastic covers we’re doing as well.

“Overall, I’m just super excited to be back on stage performing again.”

Olly performed at Colchester United’s Community Stadium in 2017 in front of 17,000 fans.
