A COMEDIAN and full-figured activist who proudly holds body positive events for “plus size party animals” has criticised a hotel for what she says is its “fat shaming” response.

Miranda Kane is a sex worker turned stand-up comic who runs Club Indulge in venues across the UK for people of all shapes and sizes to enjoy karaoke, speed dating and weekend packages.

When trying to find a hotel to host a weekend package, complete with a two-hour pool party, Miranda decided to contact Best Western Hotel, in Marks Tey.

However, she was mortified to be accidentally copied into correspondence which said her members “were not quite the clientele we want to attract”.

Miranda shared the hotel’s full response on Twitter which said: “Before I spend any time on this, do you agree this isn’t quite the clientele we want to attract.”

The comedian said: “I’m still hugely upset by their response - I’ve never come across such a conceited attitude.

“All our venues love us and encourage us to revisit - we bring in a lot of money, and a lot of fun.

“We’ve used another Best Western hotel in Bournemouth for four years running events just like this.”

“The only reason we can’t this year is because it closed down.”

The manager responded to Miranda saying the reply was in response to the “party animal” element.

But Miranda said her email explained she runs body positive events where “anyone of any size can just feel comfortable having a drink and dance without feeling judged”.

She added: “If nothing else, this just proves why we need events like this. People still judge and jump to unfair conclusions.”

“I have sent that exact same email to dozens of hotels this week looking for a new venue, and none of them commented on the clientele.”

A hotel spokesman said there was no reference to any body size from any of the hotel employee’s communications.

He added: “The employee in question is at a loss the email has been misinterpreted this way.

“We are a diverse and inclusive company and never will we discriminate against any size, age, disability, sex, gender, race or religion or belief.

“The sole concern the hotel had with the inquiry was the reference to ‘party animals’ and being able to have a pool party.

“We have passed on our apologies to the party concerned for any discomfort the response may have caused.”
