A weekend of glorious weather saw Colchester Castle Park play host to a glut of musical performances and historical re-enactments for crowds of people to enjoy.

Opened by Mayor Robert Davidson, the weekend’s events included Grantonbrygg society producing displays of Norman crafts and weaponry around the castle, in celebration of the Norman knight Eudo Pedifer.

Numerous bandstand community groups provided musical numbers, with The Hoolies shanty crew and Boxted Methodist Silver Band performing to a large crowd.

Meanwhile, younger musicians from The Colne Valley Youth Orchestra, Thurstable School, and the Mike Ulph Tribute band performed for the first time in months.Gazette: Colne Valley Youth Orchestra enjoyed performing in the weekend's glorious sunshineColne Valley Youth Orchestra enjoyed performing in the weekend's glorious sunshine

The event was organised by Nigel Hildreth, who was very pleased to see the return of community events following their absence last year.

“It was a brilliant relaxed opportunity to see and hear performances and experience entertainment outdoors in a safe way,” he said.

“Many of the musicians were really moved by the experience of performing again.”
