COLCHESTER'S new state-of-the-art sports park is opening its doors free of charge this weekend - with activities, demonstrations and taster sessions.

Visitors to the Northern Gateway Sports Park Open Day will be able to use the pump track, learn to ride and one-mile cycle track, as well as watch football, rugby, cricket and badminton demonstrations.

A guided tour will also be on offer of the Activa Gym, fitness studio and velo suite.

They'll also be inflatables on offer and residents can use the play areas and explore the 76-acre grounds.

Dr Bike will be on site to provide advice on how to maintain your bicycle before you hit the tracks.

Paddy and Scott's Coffee Shop will be providing free craft coffee throughout the day at the sports park, which is run by Leisure World.

The open day takes place on Saturday from 9am at the sports park, just off Junction 28 of the A12.

Some sessions will need to be booked in advance.

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the safe pedestrian and cycle route into the Sports Park, via Severalls Lane and Boxted Road, and leave the car at home.
