POLICE have issued a warning to dog owners about the dangers of leaving their pooches inside a hot car.
With temperatures soaring Essex Police's Dog Unit carried out an experiment to demonstrate why dogs should never be left in a hot car.
On Monday the unit cooled the interior of an empty car down to 18.5C, then they left the vehicle in the sun.
Within 30 minutes the temperature inside the car had climbed by nearly 13 degrees to 31.4C.
A spokesman for the unit said: "It will be even hotter this weekend.
"Don’t leave dogs in hot cars."
Yesterday, for an experiment, with no dog in the car, we cooled the interior down to 18.5 c then left it in the sun. Just over 30minutes later the inside temperature had climbed nearly 13degrees. It will be even hotter this weekend. Please share: Don’t leave dogs in hot cars! pic.twitter.com/HdYIfNw4IP

The unit will be out on patrol around the county, but said it will be taking plenty of breaks for the dogs during the hot spell.
