SUMMER looks like it could finally be set to arrive in Colchester this weekend, with temperatures set to climb as high as 27c.

This year's weather has been a bit all over the place, with mini-heatwaves broken up by thunderstorms and temperatures which wouldn't be out of place in the winter months.

But it looks like sunshine is on its way back to Colchester this weekend, with temperatures reaching those not seen for weeks.

Here's how the Met Office forecast is looking for Colchester this weekend:

Saturday:

  • 7am - A warmish start to the day with temperatures of 15c. Sunshine is expected even in the early hours, however.
  • 10am - Temperatures will climb fast, reaching 20c by 10am with the borough still basking in sunshine.
  • 1pm - It is set to get hotter in the afternoon, with temperatures reaching 24c by 1pm.
  • 4pm - Temperatures will stay around 24c but will feel slightly cooler in the wind.
  • 7pm - Sunshine is expected to continue, with temperatures cooling slightly to 21c.
  • 10pm - Nighttime temperatures will remain warm at between 17c and 16c.

  • 7am - A warming morning than Saturday, with temperatures making 17c by 7am.
  • 10am - Things will really heat up by the late morning, reaching 23c by 10am and blazing sunshine forecast.
  • 1pm - Early afternoon and temperatures could hit 26c in Colchester, with little in the way of wind to cool things down.
  • 4pm - The highest temperatures are expected at about 4pm when residents of the town can expect highs of 27c.
  • 7pm - The weather will cool slightly, with temperatures falling to 23c by 7pm.
  • 10pm - It will be a warm night with temperatures remaining at 18c at 10pm and only falling slightly overnight.

What does the rest of the week look like?

The Met Office is predicting sunshine through the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, although temperatures won't reach the heights seen at the weekend.

However, the Met Office is warning of the potential for some heavy downpours early next week, mixed in with sunshine.
